Ruth Thornton

Ruth comes to us as a University of Waterloo graduate in Human Kinetics & Leisure Studies with 25+ years experience in the Health & Fitness Industry. She has held positions in sales, marketing and management in large, upscale, multi-faceted facilities
Ruth is passionate about service excellence and seeks to WOW members with the friendliness of our staff team. As a fitness enthusiast herself, Ruth finds great pleasure in supporting our members in their pursuit of a healthy lifestyle.
Ruth is an avid cyclist, golf enthusiast and committed to a regular workout regime.  She can even be found on the squash court trying to get a few points off our more seasoned players.

Chris Grolla

Chris is a Registered Kinesiologist, Certified Athletic Therapist, and a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist.
He received his Bachelor of Applied Health Science from Sheridan College (2008), and continued his education at Indiana State University, earning a Masters of Science in Athletic Training (2010).
Chris has been practicing for over 10 years, and has developed a focus around educating, preventing, and rehabilitating musculoskeletal conditions, empowering his clients to be independant and engaged in the maintenance or improvement of their healthy active lifestyle.

Gillian has been an athlete for most of her life, competing provincially, nationally and internationally in track and field/cross-country running, and provincially and internationally in volleyball. When you have a question related to running, interval training, or plyometric exercise, come see Gillian at the front desk and she will be happy to help!

Jensen Van Diepen

Jensen has a deep rooted passion for fitness and wellness. Having had to overcome several health challenges in his life, including curvature of the spine and various visual problems, Jensen has used fitness as a tool to reconstruct both his body and his mind. Jensen is excited to help other people on their fitness journey now that he is feeling better!

Teri Cooney

Teri is a certified group fitness instructor and personal trainer with an extensive background in aquatics. She began training and teaching over 25 years ago when Hi Lo aerobics was all the rage and step and spinning classes were just getting started. Over the years she has participated in conferences and kept up with the latest trends in fitness and continues to motivate her participants in a fun and rewarding way. Teri can adapt and modify her training to meet various needs and abilities on land and in the water.
She has trained clients of all ages and maintained long term relationships with them and integrated exercise and wellness into their busy lives.

Yoga Instructor

Matt Polowyk

My name is Matt Polowyk aka “yoga Matt” and recently finished my 200hr yoga teacher training in Jiquilillo in Nicaragua. It totally changed my life and career path and I am excited to be teaching something I love so much. I started practicing at home yoga three years ago online through the Yoga with Adriene community and fell in love with getting on my mat. I also have an honours Kinesiology degree through the University of Waterloo so I know the human body quite well. 
 When I am not on my mat you can find me brewing craft beer at a local brewery or outside staying active. I love to hike, ski and snowboard. In the summer I love to play volleyball, baseball, ultimate, ride my bike or get on the water. Travelling is one of my biggest passions and am already planning a yoga retreat back to Nicaragua so stay tuned for details.

Massage Therapist

Alice Ficko

My name is Alice Ficko, Registered Massage Therapist, Sports Massage Therapist, Certified Reflexologist, Certified Yoga Instructor and Level 2 Ski Instructor. I provide Massage/Sports Therapy, Cupping, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage and Remedial/Rehabilitative Exercise Therapy.
 I am an avid cyclist, skier, Boston marathoner, fitness/yoga enthusiast, and Special Olympics Volunteer Ski Race Coach. I have been in practice for 17 years and thoroughly enjoy my profession and the positive impact my services have had on my clients. Outside of practicing as an RMT and Certified Reflexologist since 2003, I studied Kinesiology at York University.
Although I treat many sports injuries, I am no stranger to working with all types of individuals from pre-natal, palliative, degenerative disorders, stress-relief, etc. The basis of my treatment style is meeting the needs of each individual person and their particular massage goals.

All of our trainers are canfitpro certified, which means they’ve been trained in anatomy, physiology, and nutrition. They understand that no two bodies are alike and will work with you to ensure you reach your goals.
